Patriots Book Club opens at Wheeler Basin Library
Eighty five children attended the first Patriots Book Club meeting as part of the Summer Reading Program for grades one through six at Wheeler Basin Regional Library. Bob Dunnavant of Athens spoke on the Civil War in Decatur and noted Athens residents filed a $62,000 claim with the federal government for wartime damage though no payment was received. Cindy Jones, recent Brewer High School graduate and Outstanding Speech Award winner, urged voting rights and civic participation. Ballots were provided for children to vote on their favorite books. Next week’s meeting will feature the film Caddie Woodlawn. For more information call 353-2993.
