Priest learns elementary dentistry in Davis Inlet mission
Priest Francis C. Peters, a 30 year old Dutch missionary to the Nascopie Indians at Davis Inlet, mixed faith with toughness. Lean and six feet tall, he used fists to enforce justice, built a church school presbytery, and installed a furnace from oil drums while facing blizzard winds and 40 below temperatures. He marks three achievements: infant mortality down from 80 to 5 percent, no illiterate Indians, and independence from welfare as integration into white civilization is planned in two or three generations.
