Disease Takes Toll Of Doves
Trichomoniasis, a throat disease that has killed thousands of doves in recent years, is again reducing local bird numbers. No deaths reported in Morgan or Madison counties, but several dead birds found near Belle Mina and Tanner. The Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge manager notes 1950 saw hundreds of dove deaths, 1951 few, but a mild winter may spread the disease again, worsening an already low dove population. People finding dead or sick doves are urged to report them.
