Fines Start This Week For Over Parking Decatur Streets
Police chief J B Whitmire announced fines will begin in police court for motorists who park longer than one or two hours on Decatur business streets after a warning week. Visitors will receive courtesy cards and are not to be fined, with cooperation urged.

Fred Todd Found Guilty In Athens Riot Case
In Athens Alabama on June 7 Judge Newton Powell found Fred Todd about 40 guilty of unlawful assembly in a special nonjury session. Todd appealed to the Alabama court of appeals and did not appear for trial when re-arrested for failure to appear. The riot stemmed from a August racial disturbance between a Negro and two white youths in front of a local theatre. Most arrested had pleaded guilty with fines around 50 dollars.

Tragic Truck Accident Kills Four Year Old Near Athens
Four year old David Shannon of Athens was fatally injured when a truck ran over him on a farm road nine miles west of Athens. He was on the running board when the aunt driving the truck lost him on impact. He died at Limestone County Hospital at 11 45 after being rushed there. Funeral services are set for Shanghai Baptist Church. He is survived by his parents Aaron and Joyce Shannon, a brother and grandparents.
