Murderer Denied Parole After Local Protests
Mrs Imogene Johnson was denied parole by the State Pardon and Parole Board for the second degree murder of her husband L J Johnson. The Decatur resident is serving 99 years and was held at Julia Tutwiler Prison after prior work at the Governor's mansion. A protest petition led by Johnsons sister and others contested the parole, with Estewah District Attorney Bill Rayburn voicing objections over preferential treatment and the 99 year sentence. Johnsons hearing drew local attention and is set for possible eligibility again in May 1979.
