Horn fly infestation harms Alabama cattle herds
The horn fly is the top livestock pest in Alabama. Over the next four to five months hundreds will infest cattle backs and bellies. It reduces daily weight gains and milk production significantly. Life cycle is ten to twelve days. Eggs hatch quickly in manure. larvae feed five days, then pupate and emerge after five to six days. Control options include sprays, backrubbers, dips, pour-ons, and dust bags, with backrubbers and dust bags most economical for beef cattle. Seville, Spain claims the world’s largest Gothic church per National Geographic.

New Unearned Quota Granted To Alabama Dairy Producers
The Alabama Dairy Commission offers unearned quota to new Grade A milk producers. During the September to February quota build, unshipped quotas were allocated 60 percent to overshippers and about 3 million pounds monthly to new producers.
