Negro Health Clinics Held During May Week

A series of clinics ran May 4 through May 7 in cooperation with the county health department and Red Cross. Local doctors performed examinations and provided vaccinations including diphtheria toxoid. J L Dent from Tuskegee Institute aided all clinics and health literature was distributed by the county health department.

Athens Armory Project to Start After July 1

Work on the new Athens armory in Edgewood is set to begin shortly after July 1, funded by PWA and costing about 30 000 dollars. Adjutant General John C Coleman of Alabama gave assurances that construction will start at once on the recently purchased subdivision site.

New Members Voted Into BPW Club in Decatur

Business and Professional Women's Club met at St Johns parish house to welcome two new members Miss Irene Gray and Mrs Butler P A Hine. Four more will join later. Delegates Miss Clio Levin and Miss Louise Ussery attended Albertville state convention May 23 24 and reported a useful gathering. A $3 donation supported Boy Scout work.

Modern Hospital Building Plan Moves Site

The old W J Howard residence was purchased by Dr A D Powers for a hospital site and moved to a vacant lot due east. Construction will start at once for a modern hospital. The former home may be rented as a private residence or used as a nurses home or overflow space.
