June 5WASHINGTON Joint construction of the Clarks Hill project on the Savannah river by the federal government and private interests was proposed today by Dondero chairman of the house public works committee. He urged the plan with Savannah River Electric Power Co to take over hydroelectric phases while the government handles flood control and navigation in a 46 million program.
A $5,000 damage suit has been filed against Jimmie Willingham by Jessie T. Kitchens. The suit, announced by Harrison Hill, circuit clerk, cites injuries including a cut face and chest, cuts on both hands, a broken arm, and a sprained back.

The Richland County Democratic Executive Committee claimed the party is a private association allowed to limit membership to whites. The state legislature had repealed its primary laws following a 1944 Supreme Court decision.
Walter Jackson announces final papers show War Assets Administration grants Decatur School Board a temporary permit to use two hangars and thirteen acres at Pryor Field. The grant supports school use of the site and facilities.
In Washington the GOP backed labor bill moves to final Senate action after a 320 to 79 House passage. Taft predicts a veto override possible, while Pepper cautions the override would be very close. The compromise measure clamps down on union activities and awaits White House decision.
By unanimous voice vote the House added 40 million dollars to the Army air equipment budget for the new fiscal year beginning July 1. The total appropriated for aircraft purchases reaches 436 million dollars, topping the committee recommendation of 396 million.

Henry A. Wallace told reporters in Raleigh that he would not support President Truman's reelection. He said he might form a liberal third party if the Democratic Party becomes a war party, and he could not campaign for any Republican under any circumstances. He left possible exceptions only for Harold Stassen and Senator Wayne Morse.
Thirty extension service employees from ten North Alabama counties will meet in Decatur on June 11 for a dinner at Hotel Lyons. In Memphis Tennessee on June 5 a fifteen month old boy Frederick Adkins Jr died after a .22 caliber bullet was removed from his brain. The infant was rocked on his grandfather's porch when the bullet pierced his skull Monday night. An operation split the bullet into two pieces and the surgeon said the child was doing well last night.

A senate subcommittee attributed the Centralia Illinois mine disaster on March 25 which killed 111 to explosives used improperly. The report faulted management miners the union and both state and federal bureaus for negligence and urged federal legislation granting the Bureau of Mines authority to promulgate a safety code.
A Wednesday collision at the Walnut and Ferry Streets corner damaged two automobiles, including a 1937 Chevrolet driven by Frank A. Peake of Fairfield Alabama. No injuries were reported as Patrolmen Hunter and Brasswell investigated.
Word was received that Miss Shackelford has died. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Brown in Decatur this afternoon.
