Washington reports grave possibilities for mediation as Tampico port status could break the armistice. US stance on blocking Tampico and allowing gunboat activity may trigger unfriendly acts, with Carranza delaying reply until US policy becomes clear.
A week long series of religious services begins Sunday at 11 a m at the Jackson Street Church of Christ. Rev W T Boaz of Columbia Tenn will conduct daily meetings for seven days. Boaz is praised as a devout, active worker who aided orphans by housing and raising fatherless children, founding a notable institution. Go hear him.
International News Service reports in London on June 6 that suffragette Mary Blomfield and her sister, both from high society, entered the court for last night’s appeal to the King to halt force feeding of imprisoned suffragettes. The sister who spoke to proceedings left with the others.
The Department of Justice announced that it will wait to pursue charges against Chas B. Mellen until the Interstate Commerce Commission finishes its road investigation. The decision follows curbing action during the evidence-taking phase and will allow L C Ledyard’s testimony on the Morgan affair to be reviewed alongside Mellen’s statements.
A horse belonging to the Home Steam Laundry fell dead on Moulton Street near the corner of Moulton and Second Avenue around 12:30 this afternoon. The horse, hitched to a buggy, collapsed and died within minutes and the body was removed later today. W. J. Pairent of Philadelphia was elected supreme chief engineer of the American Order of Steam Engineers at a Baltimore convention.

No word has been heard on the appeal of John Ragland who faces execution for the killing of his wife on Bank Street last fall. If the court denies a new trial an effort may be made to seek a gubernatorial clemency to life imprisonment.

Anapolis June 5 President Wilson arrives today on his yacht Mayflower after a stormy voyage to attend United States Naval Academy graduation exercises. He delivers an address and diplomas are presented by the President. Secretary Daniels also speaks. The Wilson party joins a luncheon hosted by Commander Fullam. He will spend the weekend aboard the yacht and return to Washington Saturday night.
Unusually low admission prices announced for two Redpath Chautauqua attractions. Ben Greet’s company presents Twelfth Night tomorrow at 9:00 AM with Percival Vivian and Grace Halsey Mills in the cast. Kryl’s Band performs Monday with Denton Grand Opera Company in Scenes from Martha at the evening concert.
The Berman Cafe on Lafayette Street will formally open tonight drawing a big crowd. Max Berman of the Brvotates, a longtime hotel operator, is expected to find success in his new venture as the management promises to offer Decatur customers the best the market affords.
Paris reports Colonel Roosevelt landed in Cherbourg on June 5 en route to his son Kermit's wedding in Madrid. He travels with Mrs. Nicholas Longworth and relatives and receives elite honors including a White Pass. He aims to visit President Poincare at the Elysee Palace the next day.
Several officers returned to the Sheriff's office after an all night watch on the river bank for a boat reported to have left Chattanooga with 450 barrels of liquor bound for the Decaturs. The vessel failed to show, leaving the effort in vain.
While crossing the continent with companions near Salt Lake City last Wednesday the car skidded and overturned. Woodward Duke, about 22, was thrown and crushed under the vehicle. He was a son of B. L. Duke of Durham North Carolina and a nephew of Mrs. W. R. Hall.
The Decatur City Council holds a special session tonight to hear objections to paving about eight principal streets at an estimated cost of 150000, a major bond issue for a city of Decatur's size. Protests may arise but supporters expect the improvements to be approved, reinforcing Decatur's status as a progressive city with well paved streets.
Andrew G Patterson and W H Weakley of Decatur were installed as officers in the Grand Lodge Knights of Pythias of Alabama. Patterson serves on the Widows and Orphans Home committee while Weakley is district deputy grand chancellor of the second district. Their long service in grand lodge affairs earned them these positions.

Pittsburg June 5 Three thousand employees of the Westinghouse Electric Company began a strike after several men were discharged for union affiliations. Leaders say ten thousand more will join and halt plant operations by night.
Chicago June 6 Adlai Stevenson former vice president is reported in a serious condition at Presbyterian Hospital. He suffered a nervous breakdown several weeks ago and at seventy nine his advanced age causes much anxiety as his condition has gradually worsened.
Rain interrupted the Arlington cemetery unveiling as President Wilson concluded his address. Generals B. H. Young and Washington Gardner spoke along with other speakers at the Confederate dead monument ceremony.
George H. Malone cashier of the First National Bank of Dothan was chosen by the Alabama Bankers Association as Alabama director of the Federal Reserve Bank at Atlanta. The selection followed a lengthy contest with rules restricting larger banks from nomination and limiting eligibility to group 3 bankers.
The fifth international printing and allied trades exhibition opened at the Royal Agricultural Hall in London led by the lord mayor. He praised the exhibit’s completeness and equipment, calling it a school for printers and a public lesson on book and newspaper production.
In Newburg New York a widow, Mrs Kampe, learns from John Patton of a 40 year old promise to repay fifty dollars with fifty thousand. Patton states he owes a thousand dollars per fifty advanced for a West prospecting trip. Mrs Kampe’s husband was a tailor.
