National Register Adds Joe Wheeler Plantation in Alabama
The Joe Wheeler Plantation in Lawrence County Alabama was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The 100 acre site near Decatur on Alabama 20 preserves three generations of plantation life with structures dating to 1818 1820s and late 19th century. Fightin Joe Wheeler a Confederate cavalry leader and later U S congressman is memorialized on site with a family cemetery and a monument to his memory.
