Air National Guard Chief Opposes "Super Gen" Plan
Maj. Gen. Reid Doster of the Alabama Air National Guard objects to a bill that would replace the adjutant general with a “super general.” He says the measure is likely unconstitutional and could place a lieutenant in command over generals. He would seek to relieve riot control duties if passed, citing lack of funding for civil disturbance training and concerns about qualified command. He notes jealousy in state military circles over ANG gains in funding and equipment.

Wetumpka High to appeal ruling on student hair ban
Officials at Wetumpka High School filed notice they will appeal a federal ruling ordering the reinstatement of 17 year old Bobby Griffin expelled for non standard hair. Judge Frank M Johnson Jr urged removal of incident notes and no credit for time missed. The school plans to take the case to the Fifth Circuit in New Orleans. Principal Fordyce Tatum warned a ruling against the school would harm discipline while teachers cited hair length as a classroom distraction. The student was expelled on April 14. The Oak Grove Singing schedule was moved to the second Saturday night before the second Sunday each month, with singing at 7.
