Control Of Reds Changes Hands
Cincinnati AP report says owner Bil DeWitt handed control of the Reds board back to the Crosley Foundation on a temporary basis and pledged to keep the team in Cincinnati for at least five years. The move clouds a sale begun last March 23 for 4.625 million. Ohio Attorney General Mark McElroy indicated he would probe the sale under powers over charitable foundations. DeWitt notified Mrs. Stanley Kess, head of the foundation, of the pledge. Crosley Jr. previously made a similar pledge. McElroy had begun an inquiry after reports a group led by Joseph Rippe Jr offered 5.5 million for the club.
