Cantwell Seton Hall to Become Decatur Legion Home
The historic Cantwell Seton Hall on Bank Street will be deeded to the Decatur post of the American Legion. City council action clears the way for the transfer from Mrs. W. B. Edmunson, restoring the hall to the Edmunsons before the Legion takes over. Elmer Loyd, Decatur Legion commander, said renovations will convert the hall into a Legion home with tennis courts and other recreational features, continuing its long civic role since World War II. The hall, built before the Civil War as one of the state’s first banks, carries scarred columns from War battles and was largely built by slave labor.
