Decatur Man Harvests Colorado Black Bear While Bowhunting
John Ellas of Decatur earned a Colorado big game bear from a tree stand baiting area at 10,000 feet. He waited patiently as the bear came to the bait, fired a razor arrow, and tracked the wounded animal with a guide. The bear died within seconds, and Ellas plans to make a bearskin rug. He has hunted four years, tallying eight whitetail deer and two mule deer prior to this hunt.

Prisoner Bills Mount But State Won't Pay
Morgan County and four nearby counties have accumulated over $33,000 in costs housing state prisoners. The State Board of Corrections says reimbursement will occur only if the Legislature passes a bill. Admissions to state prisons were frozen earlier this year, so counties bear the expense. Morgan County has sent a bill for $8,103.93 covering inmates jailed from April 1975 through March. County officials expect further action.
