Judge Joseph M. Hocklander ruled Providence Hospital qualifies as a charitable institution under the state constitution and exempt from property taxes. Tax Assessor Arnold Debrow said he will appeal to the Alabama Supreme Court. The ruling covers 1959 to 1953 tax amounts of about 248000 dollars and notes patient provisions as charitable care.
