Decatur High seniors graduate tonight across three schools

In Decatur 467 seniors graduate this evening at Austin Decatur and Lakeside High. Decatur High with about 267 graduates shifted from the stadium to the auditorium due to bad weather. Lakeside hosts an out of town speaker Charles Brandon addressing 59 graduates while Brenda Ayers and Willie Birdsong are valedictorian and salutatorian.

Wallace Named Delegate to Methodist Conference Debates Segregation

In Montgomery Alabama delegates to the Alabama West Florida Methodist Conference named former Gov George Wallace as a representative to the National Methodist Conference They planned to vote on a resolution to eliminate all forms of racial structure from church organization and on a union with the Evangelical United Brethren The union requires two thirds approval at annual conferences of both churches The segregation resolution is expected to spark debate as a prior year saw no vote on a similar measure.
