Berlin July 25 The United States and military government officials clash over postwar policy in Germany as Secretary Marshall invites France to a three power conference on industrial levels. Lucius D. Clay declined to comment while talks delay an American British accord on Germany’s industry. The issue centers on whether France should have a voice in setting industrial levels within the combined American and British zones.
A Dutch official report states the first phase of operations against Indonesian republicans to isolate central Java from rice regions has been completed. Reports from Jogjakarta say Indonesians foresee guerrilla resistance while Dutch forces move to mop up eastern and western zones and install new administrations.
Austelle Denson, 33, of Arley, jailed in Cullman after a three year, six state search. He was captured at his mother's home. charges include driving without a license and other false pretenses. Officers from Florida and Ohio may transfer custody before release to other authorities.
Greek government forces repelled a guerrilla attack on Grevena with rocket planes and artillery. Spokesmen said 1 200 to 1 500 guerrillas attacked at 3 A M, and air bombardment and fire kept them under steady pressure, as other fronts report heavy ongoing clashes in the region. Warrants were issued for Nikolas Zachariades and Miltiades Porphyrogennis for anti national activities and revolutionary plotting.
Lewie Gilchrist eight was in serious condition at Decatur General hospital after being hit by a car in Somerville Thursday afternoon. He ran into the road from behind a parked vehicle and was struck by driver Robert Moore of New Hope. The boy suffered a broken arm shoulder injuries facial and leg lacerations and several broken ribs. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Snow Gilchrist.
Lt. Gen. Lawton Collins deputy chief of staff to Gen. Eisenhower will speak at the annual state American Legion convention here tonight. Gen. Collins was introduced by State Adjutant Gen. James Salibagion and was mentioned in connection with Sen. Lister Hill.
Congress sent to President Truman a bill to create a Secretary of National Defense uniting Army Navy and Air Force under one cabinet officer. The measure also grants air forces equal rank with other services and was a key item before adjournment.
