Jimmy Carter swept into New York on Saturday and was met by a crowd of about 10,000 waiting outside the Americana Hotel. He spoke from a Seventh Avenue podium promising a great party and vowed he would not tell New Yorkers to drop dead. Mayoral figures and Democratic leaders joined the greeting as Carter teased a vice presidential running mate announcement.
