New York July 11 Secretary of Agriculture Anderson urged public understanding of the food problem and said shortages stem from demand exceeding supply. He warned that America cannot feed the world and urged maximum production while preparing for possible surpluses. He cited depleted reserves in meat poultry eggs sugar lard and canned goods and called for clear communication to avoid panic.
Washington notes that the Office of Defense Transportation restricted transport of race horses and show animals by rail and common carriers. ICC permits are required for exceptions. The ban runs from 6 p m EWT today until 12 01 a m EWT July 1 1946. Freight herd animals are exempt when shipped in ordinary livestock cars.
