Wonders Of The Universe Preparations On For Solar Probe
Dr. I M Levitt at Fels Planetarium outlines a solar probe plan with GE, Martin, and Philco invited to submit proposals. The mission aims to study the sun closely using magnetometers, particle detectors, and x ray sensors to reveal solar constants, atmosphere, and meteoroid densities. Detailing heat, propulsion, and power challenges, experts discuss cone and sunshade designs to withstand 700 F, with Saturn I B as eventual booster and thermoelectric or thermionic power options.
