Spirit of America festival gains momentum with events

Car Rampage at Racist Rally Leaves Dozens Hurt in Georgia

At a Plains rally by a racist extremist group, a sports car rammed into a crowd near a grandstand injuring about 39 people, including a pregnant woman. Charles Finney Named Decatur Citizen of the Year

Charles T. Finney head of the Decatur Tourism Bureau will be named Decatur Civitan Outstanding Citizen of the Year at the Spirit of America Festival. He has attracted national publicity for Decatur including a live ABC telecast during the 1976 AAU Outdoor Diving Championships at Point Mallard and helped bring the 1978 US Soviet aquatic meet to Point Mallard. He chaired the Alabama Heart Fund in 1976, raising funds for seven North Alabama counties and is active in Junior Achievement teaching local youths.
