The American Hawaiian steamer Washingtonian was rammed by an unidentified schooner off Fenwick Island near dawn and sank in seven minutes. Lifeboats saved 39 crew members amid chaotic scenes with one reported body and unclear fate for the schooner.
Representative E B Fite of Marion introduced a bill in Montgomery to place the motor vehicle department under the state highway commission and to use license receipts on public roads. The measure, proposed at the Alabama Good Roads session, would fund both agencies from about 150000 dollars yearly receipts with any surplus applied to state roads.
