Police investigate the theft of a black 1949 Chevrolet taken from W. C. Blizzard at 704 4th Ave SE last night. Report filed at 7 40 this morning. A license- have driving while license was suspended case appears on the docket today in police recorder's court.

A Chicago report notes women live longer and healthier than men. Vatican City reports Pope Pius XII plans a private audience with French Premier Pierre Mendes France on January 12. The audience would be the first since the pope's serious collapse on December 2 and follows gradual improvement.
Circuit Judge J Russell McElroy postponed the Patterson murder trial start from February 14 at Phenix City with a new arraignment date set for January 31 for three defendants. Defense attorney Roderick Beddow hinted at mandamus to move the Russell County jury, while Ferrell and two others face postponed trials. Others named include Albert Patterson, Arch Ferrell, Albert Fuller, Si Garrett, and Bernard Sykes. The case stems from Patterson's June 18 shooting amid a concurrent vote fraud inquiry by the Jefferson County grand jury.
A seven hour sea and air search off Beaufort North Carolina ended with all nine ducks and twenty four Marines accounted for and rescued. Mechanical trouble caused two ducks to strand on a sandbar. the Coast Guard later retrieved the crews and by 2 a.m. all were ashore safe and unharmed.
In Tokyo a 21 year old waitress Miss Setsumi Endo and her 22 year old companion Satoru Takayanagi survived a 33 hour ordeal after leaping into a volcanic crater. Police said Endo had a crushed ankle and was critically injured while Takayanagi escaped largely unharmed. Both cited doomed love as the motive and described the dangerous attempt to end their affair.
TVA chairman Brig. Gen. Herbert D. Vogel told Nashville Chamber of Commerce the staff is drafting an urgent substitute financing plan for future power plants. He said studies should finish by month end or February, enabling the TVA board to decide and present a proposal to the valley’s organizations before July.
New York investors showed cautious optimism as the market rose after two days of heavy selling. Early volume hit 930,000 shares with gains of $1 or more for firms like Youngstown Sheet & Tube, Chrysler, Montgomery Ward, Zenith, Kennecott, Santa Fe, NY Central, and Du Pont. Douglas Aircraft rose about $3 and United Aircraft around $2.50. The downturn began after the Fed raised margin requirements to 60 percent, marking the steepest decline since the Korean War started in June 1950. yesterday’s volume reached 5,300,000 shares, the highest since Europe war activity began in September 1939.
Mrs. Edythe Sheppard aged 62 was found dead at her son Dr Stephen Sheppard's home in Rocky River. A note said she could not take it any longer. Her death follows her son Dr Samuel Sheppard's murder conviction and life sentence in the Marilyn Sheppard case.
Three people were taken to Decatur General Hospital after a two car crash at 11th Ave NW and 3rd St. SW. Mrs. Littie McCutcheon and Mrs. Sarah Landers were admitted with head, facial, and other injuries while Tommy Holland was treated and released. The 1953 Chevrolet collided with a 1949 Buick. Lt. Broadrick and Sgt. Kennedy investigated.
A false alarm cry of Fire at a Colonial Theater children's matinee in Aguascalientes sent panicked children fleeing. Nine were killed and more than 40 injured before officials could locate the culprit who shouted Fire. Authorities search for the person responsible.
The Tennessee River at Keller Memorial Bridge marked 17.57 feet with a 54 foot fall in 24 hours. Yesterday’s high reached 58 degrees at noon and the night low fell to 34 at 7 am. Today is fair and cold with a high near 47 and a low around 27. Tomorrow is expected to reach 54 with continued fair weather.
An amphibious ABC team aided by the highway patrol destroyed six whiskey stills in Madison County, disposing of one by land. Agents Herman Sandlin and Carlos Nelson and patrolman Earl Bradford used a boat to smash seven rigs with a total mash capacity of 2 850 gallons, pouring out 2 050 gallons.
Circuit Judge Newton Powell ruled for B. W. Hogan in a civil case over a 1946 mortgage of about 25000 to buy cotton gin equipment. The mortgage was marked satisfied on Lawrence County probate records by an unidentified hand, with a handwriting expert saying the signature was not B. W. Hogan. The blast about forgery involved Amos Hogan and related companies amid allegations of collusion.
Secretary of the Army Stevens declared he has never felt better and is not resigning. The statement, issued via Maj. Gen. Gilman Mudgett, says Stevens had not discussed resigning with anyone amid strong rumors of his departure. Senator Potter asserted he believed Stevens and Army counsel John Adams should resign or be fired.
Miss Robert Mary Tate 26 told sheriff's officers she and Pink Russell 37, both living in Romulus, were playing cowboys and Indians with a 4 year old neighbor girl when a shotgun discharged. Russell died. Tate was held for investigation.
A Soviet officer in Pravda warned that if the United States drops a hydrogen bomb on Russia the Soviets would retaliate in kind on America. He claimed Washington overstates its atomic edge and urged readiness, citing U S air losses near Soviet borders and a push to rearm West Germany.
U S officials report Noel and Her ta Fields have again vanished from view in Hungary after being freed from a five year jail term. The U S legation in Budapest has lost track of the couple, with Ravndal pressing the Hungarian Foreign Office for information. Officials say aides visiting their Budapest address found no trace of the Fields.
Two Negro prisoners including a trustee escaped Morgan County jail late yesterday afternoon by an unguarded outer door. Sheriff McCutcheon declined further comment until the trio of city jail breaks is resolved, with past escapes dating from September and December.
