A three alarm fire at a 72 year old lodge hall in Columbus killed five firefighters and injured at least a dozen as icy walls toppled. Firemen Ca Otto Ignatz and Robert Weld, Lieut. Harry McFadden, Firemen Herbert Harrington and Oliver Metzger died after the wall fell during a three hour battle in sub zero cold. Several others were treated for cuts and frost bite as flames spread to nearby buildings. lodge secretary Frank Kronenbitter estimated losses at 70000 dollars.
