Administration Promises Tax Reform And New Credits

The Nixon Administration pledged to seek this year congressional action on tax reforms aimed at equity in the tax system and to consider new tax credits to spur private investment for urban and disadvantaged areas. The plan would review federal state local tax relationships and broader economic impacts while examining when reforms and credits could be sent to Congress. Von Braun Testifies Three Hours in German War Crimes Trial

Dr Wernher von Braun testified for three hours in New Orleans in a German war crimes trial. He stated he had nothing to hide and was not implicated. The case concerns three former SS guards accused of executing about 100 inmates at Nordhausen concentration camp.

Huie Arrested On Contempt Citation

William Bradford Huie biographer of James Earl Ray was jailed on a contempt of court warrant after testifying before the Shelby County Grand Jury. He posted $1,000 bond and was released. The contempt related to a no pretrial publicity order. Huie had written Look Magazine pieces alleging a conspiracy behind King's murder.

Origin of Fatal Town Creek Fire Unknown

Authorities cannot determine the fire’s origin in Town Creek that killed 90 year old Pattie Crompton. Her four room home burned to ashes while she was alone. her great grandson Milton Allen and her son-in-law John Williams tried to enter but were driven back by smoke. The body was found in the former bedroom as the fire department responded to the noon blaze, about a mile south of town.

Prosecution Witness Says He Was Hypnotized By Conspirators

New York. Charles I. Spiesel testifies in Shaw trial that a gang including New York police and a psychiatrist hypnotized him from time to time. He recalls a June 1963 party near the French Quarter where Shaw hosted and a discussion of assassinating President Kennedy.

Nixon Basks In Florida

President Nixon moves from a busy Cabinet meeting to a Florida weekend in Key Biscayne with William P. Rogers and Henry Kissinger to prepare for an eight country Europe trip starting February 23. They will meet Western allied leaders and Pope Paul VI during visits to Brussels London Bonn Berlin Rome and Paris and the Vatican.
