Alvis Whitehead about 40 of 1006 9th Ave SE Alabama Hosiery Mills fixer was rushed to Baugh-Wiley clinic at 12 40 today with a gunshot wound to the head. He was listed in very critical condition at 1 45 pm by the attending physician. Police say he was found on a couch at his residence with a Mauser automatic found between his feet. Whitehead’s wife Mildred was in shock and could not be questioned. He is a WWII veteran born in Haleyville who moved to Decatur in 1938 and has worked at Alabama Hosiery Mills since then. He has two sons, Robert 16 and David Allen 22 months. Police Sgt J T Broadrick and officer Alex Terry investigated at press time.

Birmingham reports clearing skies ended the flood threat along Alabama rivers and streams. A second drowning victim, Gordon S.
