Reverend E N Hart continued a Ten Commandments series urging that honoring father and mother upholds God’s authority and national order. He warned that family obedience anchors national peace and prosperity and urged parents to model godly conduct for the child’s dependence and honor.
Poll tax payments in Morgan county are considered fairly good this year with 1,634 paid, boosting voting strength to about 8,000. The tax supports county schools and payments picked up in the last ten days before February 1 compared with last year’s 8,800 eligible voters.
Julian Harris, Morgan County solicitor, reports widespread excitement over Muscle Shoals and the Tennessee Valley. He notes residents in West Virginia Ohio and Kentucky consider the Shoals a top topic while Republicans he spoke with express strong faith in President-elect Roosevelt as a capable leader for the nation.
Pat Ross, a black man, was dangerously wounded by a shooter identified as Lely Gray in a Sunday afternoon incident on 12th Avenue West. Ross said the confrontation began over a crap game. Gray fired a .44 revolver and fled. Gray had not been arrested by that afternoon.
A Black man pled guilty in police court this morning to a prohibition violation and was fined. Police raided a Twelfth Avenue West residence Saturday night and recovered a half gallon of liquor.
A trio of robbers entered the bank shortly after three o clock, forced cashier Crawford Grey and assistant cashier Mertie Gibbs to the floor, took cash, tied the staff, and escaped when Grey untied himself to open a rear door. The thieves headed north after the robbery.
A thief entered the Elliott Transfer Company warehouse on Church Street during the weekend. He removed a small quantity of bacon, dried salt meat, several bars of soap, and several jars of mustard, leaving the rest intact. The break in was found this morning.
Carl Townsend held in Madison county jail on an assault with intent to murder charge in Union Hill community was moved from Huntsville to Parkville for a preliminary hearing before Justice J. P. Bean. Walter Mitchell charged with seduction was transferred from Huntsville to Hartselle for a preliminary before Inferior Judge J. R. Howell. Both men were in the custody of Deputy Aaron Walton.
Birmingham mourns the death of Judge Watts, former potentate of Zamora temple. The Birmingham death comes after funeral services in Montgomery and a funeral service for Judge Daveland in Mobile Thursday night.

Fire Chief Ellis reports Jones and Fireman Jim Roberts were injured Sunday morning while on the roof at 420 Thirteenth avenue west, attempting to loosen a large tin piece. Both men suffered cuts to the hands as the house sustained an estimated loss of $50.
