Moulton Policeman Indicted for Assault with Intent to Murder
Wayne Hughley a 28 year old Moulton police officer has been indicted by a Lawrence County grand jury on a charge of assault with intent to murder. Sheriff Rutherford said Hughley was arrested on the indictment and released on 1000 dollar bond. The indictment stems from an alleged assault on Billy Fred Alexander after a high speed chase last April. Hughley had been on the force since August 1968. The grand jury returned 32 indictments during a session of more than a week and recommended jail repairs including fire extinguishers handrails and better lighting.
