A trio of youths held since Sunday in connection with the Louisville and Nashville freight depot robbery were released after fingerprints confirmed they were not the suspects. In Nashville on February 1 AP reports Solicitor Zeb V Nettles from Asheville North Carolina arrived with requisition papers for Col Luke Lea and Luke Lea Jr. The Leas, convicted in Asheville in 1931 of violating state banking laws, may be extradited after Nettles seeks Governor Hill McAlister’s signature. Sheriff Laurence E Brown and A A F Seawell aided. Nettles plans to request extradition. if refused he would pursue other options.
The cotton market extended its decline with middling cotton priced at 5.85 cents per pound this afternoon. The slump has persisted for several days, signaling continued downward pressure on prices.
