Auto driven by Max Sobotka of Hartselle crashed into a utility pole on Sixth Avenue after losing control in a suspected dui incident. Sobotka was injured though condition not reported. Police and emergency crews responded at the scene.
Robert Williams 18, University of Texas sophomore, is charged with killing his former sweetheart Elizabeth Johnson in Port Arthur. Williams was brought to Beaumont from Arthur after sobbing his innocence to his minister father and local officers. The Rev S W Williams, of Austin Methodist church, arrived and was allowed to talk briefly with his son as authorities pursue details of a quarrel over attentions.
