Lack Of Funds Halting Bridge Replacement
The New Mexico Highway Commission said a narrow bridge where 19 people died and 16 were injured in a bus truck crash has been slated for replacement since 1985 but funding delays pushed it to 1974. Commissioner Fort Sumner noted a four year old safety survey. The crash occurred Tuesday night when a cattle truck driven by Erby Wilmeth 52 of Clovis sideswiped the railing as the two vehicles crossed the 20 foot bridge.

Tennessee asks denial of Ray new trial bid in MLK case
The state of Tennessee asked a federal court to reject James Earl Ray's bid for a new trial claiming his 1969 guilty plea for the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was voluntary and not coerced. Prosecutors cited three attorneys and an in court transcript to show Ray understood the plea and faced overwhelming evidence of guilt. Ray seeks release or a new trial from prison.
