Housing Bill To Be Pushed Into 1950 Action
Democratic leaders plan spring action on a new middle income housing program that President Truman is expected to outline in his state of the union message. The bill aims to spur private home building for families with moderate income, with target prices around 7000 to 9000 dollars. It follows the Sparkman pattern and would liberalize home loan terms, supplementing public housing and slum clearance efforts. The plan centers on a broad cooperative housing program financed by bonds bought by private interests.
