Angel Island, declared surplus by the Army in 1946, is offered by the War Assets Administration with bids sought for over a year and a half. Appraised at 700000 for the island and salable installations, though its value reflects the extensive housing, hospital, water systems, and equipment. The site includes three garrison posts, a 200 bed hospital, and recreation potential for Bay Area residents nearby. Former Ft. McDowell and a quarantine station at Hospital Cove remain on the island, with Immigration Service history at the detention area.
