Eighth Victim Claimed By Lincoln Farm Home Fire

Fire that leveled a Lincoln farm home claimed the eighth victim as investigators sought causes. Mrs Calhoun woke to smoke and flames and dropped an infant from a window before perishing. Ernest Calhoun, 7, hid with a grand mother two miles away. Lon Embry led the inquiry with no definite cause found.

Family mourns girl after fatal accident at Bald Knob

Two members of the family til girl will live the base. She is said never to fi fally regained consciousness. Warnix's injuries were not ao ous. Funeral services for the deccas will be conducted today by Big Byars at Bald Knob chapel, inter ment being made in the Tallassee, Rogersville, Ala. to spend the héll days, were almost prostrated by the accident. Mr. Patterson went to the hospital and rendered what services he could to the stricken family.

The Decatur Kiwanis club sponsored Final Trade Day concluding Saturday with one of the largest holiday shopper crowds in Decatur history. Parking was at a premium in the business district as brisk trading occurred across all sections and local retailers reported unusually high activity. Kiwanis chairman L. C. Peterson noted the crowd size by the Daily plant block being used entirely by cars.

Intruder Shot In Duel At Home

Atlanta resident J D McCurry shot and killed Lee Watson a bricklayer who helped build his home. Watson died at the doorstep as McCurry, the homeowner, was released by police after being served and the husband appeared in the scene.

Nearly 400 children received gifts as the Decatur Kiwanis club hosted a Christmas program led by Rev. E N Hart. The event featured carols by the Girl's Glee Club and a big red brick chimney tree with Santa handing out presents.

Huntsville Man seriously injured changing tire on bus

Sam France formerly of Huntsville now living in Birmingham was severely injured when a Buckner car struck the rear of a parked Chambers Bros bus on the Bee Line highway near Athens while France assisted with a tire change. He suffered a broken right arm a badly cut leg and a slight hip fracture. He was treated in Athens then taken to a Huntsville hospital where his condition was reported as good as could be expected.

Alabama Powers Enters Athens as City Switches to Grid

After a fifteen year dispute, Athens switches from municipal steam power to Alabama Power. The city’s old steam plant is shut down as the city takes over wires and equipment. Electricity costs under the five year contract run at about 1.5 cents per kilowatt hour wholesale, with the city retailing to consumers.

Car Goes Off Fill, Driver Sought After Blaze

A car left the road and struck a fuel tank causing gasoline to drip and ignite. The vehicle burned quickly but no one was reported at the hospital, and no occupant was registered in connection with the accident.
