Chicago and Alton Hummer robbed near Springfield as four bandits dynamited an express safe for 46 minutes failing to open it. They fled with bonds and fifteen small express packages while a posse opened fire from a switch engine. The safe held $60,000.
United Press reports the Viceroy of India, Mdinge, improved with no fever and satisfactory condition after a restless period. Four rusty nails were removed from Baron Hardinge's back and shoulder. tetanus risk remains. Lady Hardinge stays at his bedside.

A party of militant suffragettes marching from New York to Albany to urge Governor-elect Sulzer passed Livingston New York this morning. Heavy snow left up to nine inches in places. The group was given hot drinks and continued on the northward march.

The ship carrying bananas and 40 passengers rests fast as life savers stand by. Wrecking tugs are dispatched awaiting float. A wireless reports the boat rests easy with no immediate danger.
In Trenton Governor Wilson braved heavy snows to reach the state house. Mrs Wilson announced the appointment of Isabella Hagner as her private secretary for the White House. The appointee previously served as Mrs Roosevelt's secretary for seven years.
Eight persons were seriously injured when the Hlinots Central Flyer The Jacksonville Limited wrecked near Ellaville early today.Three coaches overturned in the accident reported from Atlanta Georgia.
London dec 24 aviator Edward Berrie was instantly killed when his monoplane crashed near Marsee. He was attempting a flight from Brooklands to Edinburgh and lost his life in the fall.
A Joliet fire this morning destroyed the Illinois Aircraft Factory, where seven aero planes were reportedly destroyed. Fire officials did not immediately reveal the cause or extent of accompanying damage.
A fire today in Chicago completely destroyed the Standard Glass Company factory after two electric wires crossed. Loss is reported at 250000 dollars. No injuries are mentioned. Fire officials contain the blaze and investigate the incident.
Napoleon Jones, a Black porter on the Mobile and Ohio, is jailed in Tuscaloosa on a charge of killing Andrew McGill, former Tuscaloosa chief of police. McGill's body was found on a bridge over the Sipsy River. blood stains and bloodstained shoes tied to Jones, amid fears of lynching. Funeral arrangements set in Tuscaloosa. McGill survived by wife and five sons.
The Decaturs Daily reports W. Crawford of Crawford Clothing Company stating that newspaper advertising is worthwhile. He recalls initial opposition but now endorses annual contracts and urges merchants to advertise to attract customers and avoid sheriff sales.
Louis Pizitz, Birmingham merchant, reports Herman Ehrlich, his confidential man for 15 years, has disappeared after 21 years of service. Ehrlich left $45,000 in debts to Pizitz and others, with $14,000 owed to Pizitz and about $1,600 to Mrs. Pizitz. A $500 reward is offered. authorities have been alerted and a search extends to New York.
