Washington AP outlines major tax relief provisions in the reform bill with dates. Starting Jan 1 1970 the surcharge drops to five percent and a $1,100 low income allowance applies. July 1 1970 ends surcharge and raises dependent exemption to $650. Jan 1 1971 expands standard deduction to 13 percent or $1,500 with $1,050 low income, and new earned income rate at 60 percent. Jan 1 1972 raises personal exemption to $700, low income to $1,000, standard deduction to 14 percent with $2,000 ceiling and earned income cap at 50 percent. Jan 1 1973 boosts personal exemption to $750 and standard deduction to 15 percent with $2,000 ceiling.

Service Station Robbery in Hartselle Leaves Teen Driver

A Hartselle service station on U S 31 was robbed of about 100 dollars by a note passing bandit who abducted 16 year old attendant Ronnie Lee Williams and forced him to drive the getaway car. The assailant, a mustachioed Negro about 20, wore a long overcoat and fled on foot after Williams dropped him near the station. Williams, a Morgan County High student, was unhurt and helped alert police.

Extroverts Sleep Longer Than Introverts Says Survey

A Liverpool University study of 600 adults aged 20 to 79 over 56 days finds extroverts sleep longer and wake less, with patterns changing after 40 and varying by age sex occupation and illness. Women wake more often, especially in their 50s, and naps increase with age.
