Decatur City Adopts 1940 Privilege Tax Schedule
Decatur city council adopted the privilege tax schedule for 1940 at Thursday night’s regular meeting. Increases were made in six schedules and reductions in three, with several expansions to include new businesses. Changes affect billiard rooms, repair services, cleaning and pressing firms, itinerant operators, laundries, bottling works, brick yards, florists, eroded free cream parlors, gas stations, and playing card or dice dealers. The council also ordered a new Seagrave fire truck costing 8455 dollars, to be delivered within 90 days, with detailed specifications and equipment.

Four Injured In Bee Line Highway Collision
A four-vehicle crash on Bee Line Highway two and a half miles south of Decatur left four injured. Joan B Reynolds Wee McCroskey and McCroskey all of Falkville were in the private car with James M Ryan driving the truck. The Reynolds car followed the truck into a driveway and struck trees before stopping. All patients were treated at Benevolent Society Hospital and discharged.

Final Rites Held for Smith Infant in Roselawn Cemetery
Funeral rites were conducted at Roselawn Cemetery at 4 p.m. Thursday for Francis Smith infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Jewel Smith. Howell and Young directed burial. The baby died at 10 o clock Wednesday night at the home 613 Ninth Avenue West. Parents survive.
