Alabama Chamber backs Byrd budget plan for 1951

The Alabama State Chamber of Commerce urged Alabama's Senators Hill Sparkman and nine U S representatives to support Senator Byrd's 1951 budget plan. It claims a $360 billion spending level would cut federal outlays by $712 billion from 1950 and save Alabama about $87 750 000 in taxes, with Morgan County taxpayers saving $1 417 162 30. The group argues the plan preserves solvency, avoids new taxes, and does not impair essential services while reducing wasteful spending.
