Lodging Tax Hits Decatur Motels Starting January First
About 10 motels in Decatur will face a two cent lodging tax inside city limits and a one cent tax in the police jurisdiction. Estimated annual revenue for the city general fund ranges from 21000 to 25000 dollars. The plan adds six percent to motel lodging, on top of a four percent state tax. Motel managers criticized the move as surprising and potentially harmful to business.
