Joe Harrison, a Linotype operator at The Decatur Daily, reports his house trailer in a pasture east of Athens was struck by a pickup truck rolling 75 yards down a hill and into the trailer. The impact damaged the trailer’s frame, estimated at 500 dollars, and damaged the father-in-law’s truck, lights, grill, and fenders while no one was aboard.
Chicago reports show states plan stricter controls during Christmas and New Year holidays to curb motor vehicle accidents. The AP survey highlights speeders and drunken drivers as top targets, noting that holiday traffic records were set during the three day Christmas period and the New Year observance added to the totals.
In College Park Maryland two bandits seized a young bank teller and his wife early today held them for nearly six hours then forced them to surrender about $20,000 from a night depository. They fled in the teller s car with weekend deposits as an FBI inquiry began. The teller reportedly cried in disbelief saying It can t be true It s like a fairy tale.
Faith healer and evangelist Jack Coe died in Dallas yesterday from bulbar polio. He was 38 and had been hospitalized since November 25.
Premier Nuri Said vows Iraq will stay with the West against communism amid Arab criticism of the Baghdad Pact. He says attacks are fabrications to push Iraq toward others and affirms continued alliance with Turkey Pakistan Iran Britain.

In Phoenix Arizona a passenger car collided with the Southern Pacific Golden State Limited at a level crossing. Eleven people were killed including three children and eight adults. The train continued to Union Station in Phoenix after a two hour delay and no one aboard the train was injured. One survivor, an 18 month old girl, was treated for a fractured skull and broken jaw. Surgeons operated at Maricopa County Hospital.
The Supreme Court today refused to reconsider its Nov 13 ruling banning racial segregation on local buses. Clerk's office will mail official notice of the decision to a special federal court in Montgomery Alabama within two or three days. Washington also rebutted a Soviet claim that Hungarian revolt was externally stimulated.
In Phoenix an old model car collided with a passenger train at the city’s western edge killing twelve people and critically injuring an 18 month old girl. Police later found a young boy among the wreckage raising the death toll.
Two gunmen abducted a New York jewelry company owner as he left a California airport and robbed him of about $300,000 in cut diamonds and emeralds. Local police described the suspects as armed men who fled the scene after the assault. The victim reported the crime and authorities promised a full investigation.
Washington experts say the U S government cut rate export program has restored the fair historical share of world cotton markets. Through mid year export sales topped 6 million bales with a 1956 crop of about 13.2 million and total demand seen near 6.5 million.
