Slams and bidding caution in contract bridge
A. V. Shepard warns that all but obvious slams are risky. Skilled players may safely pursue small slams, but grand slams lack certainty without strong showing. The article notes a hands misbid that cost the rubber and illustrates the high stakes of risky bidding.
Fourth-hand misstep costs rubber in bridge match
A diamond bid forced by partnership rules leads to a misread ace distribution, as the player misleads with hearts and clubs. The resulting two heart tricks lost and a failed small slam bid trigger consecutive losses, ending with opponents taking the rubber.
Card game misplay described with slam chances and sign-off
Article recounts a bridge hand where a misapplied sequence of bids and an opening lead led to a one trick margin for declarers A and B. It contrasts optimal play with the misstep and notes the resulting score and strategic implications. Also includes brief social notes about local residents and visitors.
