Life Support Plans for Mars Mission by Dr J M Levitt
Dr J M Levitt outlines a life support system for a five man Mars round trip. Expendable supplies weigh 11 000 to 16 000 pounds depending on food and in orbit oxygen generation. Dr Robert D Gafford of Beckman Instruments details water and oxygen recycling tech.

Mars Mission Plan Seeks 940 Day Earth Return
A 5 man Mars expedition envisions 120 day transfer from Earth to Mars with drag braking to orbit and a ferry landing on the surface. Lander crews stay 25 to 35 days, then return via a 260 day minimum energy path. Return to Earth totals 420 days with aerodynamic braking into orbit. Food and life support calculations show 2100 man days of provisions, regenerative water and waste systems, and algae based meals may supply half of onboard nutrition.
