Buffs Stampede Tide For 47-33 Liberty Bowl Triumph

Colorado overwhelmed Alabama 47-33 in the Liberty Bowl. Bob Anderson rushed 35 times for 254 yards and three touchdowns to earn MVP honors. Alabama’s Scott Hunter injured early, Ned Hayden directed two Tide scores but could not prevent the fourth-quarter collapse. Colorado piled up 473 rushing and 90 passing yards to Alabama’s 155 rushing and 212 passing, sealing a decisive victory.

Trio of Local Deaths Mark Weekend Tragedies

A 39 year old Decatur man Nathaniel Jones died from two stab wounds after a Vine Street confrontation. Mrs Samantha Dotson 77 of Moulton perished in an early morning house fire. Pvt Michael Ray Posey 19 of Decatur died after suddenly becoming ill at a Greensboro bus station en route to Quantico. A woman was arrested for investigation in the stabbing. Posey had recent leave from the Marine Corps and attended local churches.

Battle Near My Lai Kills 53 Vietcong in Five-Hour Fight

American forces reported 53 enemy soldiers killed in a five hour battle near My Lai five miles northeast of Quang Ngai. Three U S troops were wounded. The clash began after a helicopter was fired on, prompting air and artillery support.
