Eisenhower Faces Best Strike Picture As Inauguration Near
Government officials say the national strike picture should be the best in years when Eisenhower takes office. Only two issues could darken it: the Wage Stabilization Board backlog and disputes over a new consumer price index. The 102 active disputes include a notable threat at American Locomotive Co. plant. Taft Hartley emergency provisions were used to end a strike temporarily.

Putnam agency paralysed by resignations over wage dispute
Seven industry members resigned from the Putnam agency after a blast at President Truman for granting John L. Lewis miners a 1.90 daily raise. Truman overruled a wage board that warned against more than 1.50 as inflationary. Industry members call the action a fraud, with the Chamber of Commerce backing them and urging refusal to serve on the wage board. The chamber and Nation Association of Manufacturers demand an end to all wage and price controls, calling them a sham.
