U S Rep Laurie Battle will accompany postman Newton Carmichael on a Jonesboro Alabama route to assess need for a branch post office after about 1000 residents petition. They will sort mail for 400 to 500 families and then pick up.
A study of the coming evangelistic campaign in April by all Methodist churches in the North is planned. Battle noted it would help him check working conditions for postmen while Carmichael warned that Christmas traffic could alter Tuesday workloads. Postmen face a 35 pound load limit per trip.

Jones suffered chest and thigh wounds, while a second suspect, James Pickett, fled but was captured after a pursuit by Detective Robert Sievers. Jones faced prior Jefferson County burglary and grand larceny sentences.
A Kilby Prison escape suspect shot a detective with a pistol seized during a loan company's break-in. Initial reports said one of three bullets hit the Negro. later review confirmed a second bullet struck. The suspect had been released from Kilby and was due to finish a 1966 sentence.
