British Victory at Sidi Barrani Signals Bold Libya Push
Dewitt Mackenzie reports the British victory at Sidi Barrani destabilizes Mussolini's Mediterranean aims. The outcome hinges on British exploitation of the win and pursuit of Marshal Graziani in Libya, following the capture of the main Italian base in Egypt and numerous prisoners.
British Victory Not Complete Disaster
The piece outlines three potential handicaps for Marshal Graziani as he faces war in North Africa. It notes supply shortages cut by British blockade, morale drop from inactivity, and a shortage of fighting planes due to Italy’s commitments elsewhere. Air supremacy is deemed crucial for Libyan invasion plans. Graziani began with a September 14 march into Egypt, reaching Sidi Barrani amid extreme heat and sandstorms after a long forced march.
