State Milk Board Sets 59 Cent Minimum Price in Alabama
The Alabama State Milk Control Board reversed a four day earlier decision and set a 59 cent minimum and 61 cent ceiling per half gallon for retail milk. The board, citing economic factors, reaffirmed a pricing formula tied to local and national indices and announced producer prices of 6.90 per hundredweight for fluid milk and 55 1/2 cents per half gallon wholesale. Prices take effect Jan 1 1969, with Alabama retail ceiling previously 58 cents.

Brewer Presses Board Over Milk Price Ruling
Gov. Albert Brewer criticized the State Milk Control Board after it raised minimum and maximum milk prices in Alabama. The board increased minimum to 59 cents and maximum to 61 cents per half gallon, while a prior decision raised the minimum by three cents and eliminated the price ceiling. Brewer objected to secret sessions and questioned the board’s direction. He announced a $10 million Cordova forest products plant project by Birmingham Forest Products, Inc., with a $139,889.83 check to Cordova for site prep.
