Senate leaders expect early next week to pass a farm bill differing from the house measure in two respects. Senator Barkley predicts a swift approval and notes the house will next discuss the wage hour bill, then aim to clear the president’s housing stimulus proposal.
Washington reports the House split on the farm bill with 244 Democrats 12 Republicans 6 Progressives and 0 listed Farmer Laborists voting for. Alabama’s Boil eau amendment saw Hill Hobbs Starnes Sparkman and Patrick in opposition while Boykin Jarman and Bank were not recorded.
The House passed a broad farm bill 267 to 130, backing compulsory marketing controls for wheat corn cotton rice and tobacco. Wallace preferred the House measure over the Senate plan and aides expect action next week as Roosevelt seeks a four point program rollout.

In Muncie Indiana Roosevelt Joe Rozelle was killed when he drove a car into a passenger train after a romance with Betty Irene Garver who survived by jumping from the vehicle. Garver survived unharmed as the couple attempted suicide by vehicle.
Albert Blackwell 67 beloved Morgan county resident died at his Fairview home after a three month illness. Funeral services Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at his residence conducted by Reverends Hawkins and Chitwood with interment in the city cemetery. Pallbearers named Rutledge Thomas H O Troup Candler Cain J M Maxwell C D Patterson Clifton Almon Baynard Malone Fred F Tidwell. Survived by wife one son Albert S Blackwell of Decatur one daughter Mrs Woolsey Finnell of Decatur one brother D L Blackwell of Decatur one sister Mrs Julia Seals of Bir-Sngbeus and one granddaughter Sidney Finnell.

James Hughes, 49, of 1307 Bierne Avenue Huntsville, burned to death in an accident involving his car and a leaking cleaning fluid jug. Coroner Laughlin ruled accidental death. Witnesses say the open jug ignited, causing the car to flip onto its left side on an embankment, trapping Hughes.
Average price of middling cotton at 10 Southern spot markets today was 8.07 cents per pound. The 30 day moving average stands at 7.91 cents per pound.
