Automobile Plants to Speed Bomber Production in 1942
Plans to convert auto plants into aircraft component and bomber production sites were outlined as two new facilities would assemble bomber units in Kansas City Missouri and Omaha Nebraska with capacity targets of 2400 medium bombers per year. Additional plants may yield 1200 motor bombers annually. Navy yard output was rising but peak efficiency remained elusive amid higher costs and obsolete equipment. Navy leaders expect Congress to approve extra funds.
