Urban senators clash over property tax classification plan
Big-city senators push filibuster tactics to block the Farm Bureau plan that would set property tax assessments by use. The Senate Finance Committee meets to consider the amendment, while House leaders debate flat-rate options and statewide reappraisal. Gov Wallace and rural lawmakers back different approaches to equalize assessments and county versus state level reappraisal. A separate opening ceremony marks Operation Home housing for displaced Morgan County children on Somerville Road.
